Is anyone familiar with this gyroscope? |

I have a wireframe ball with gyroscope inside. The gyroscope holds an oil lamp, and the frame opens for filling the lamp. I thought I remembered seeing these in old Indian miniature paintings of hunting scenes, where servants rolled the balls ahead so that hunters on horses might see the prey. If anyone knows about these lanterns, I would like to chat. I bought the lantern in India twenty years ago. I do not know how old it is.
