Subject: 'Laithwaite-style propulsion'
Question: Dr. D Fisher states, Laithwaite propulsion was "a delusion born of ignorance" from nothing more than a showman but doesn't begin to expand on why his experiments had no merit. Does he have proof that this was smoke and mirrors and if the idea is wholly flaud how does he explain the ability to lift Laithwaite bicycle wheel weighing fifty pounds with very little effort?

 David,
Now and again, on this site, we get, for want of a better word, irritants, who feel obliged to get their oar in. Nothing constructive is ever offered by them. Usually obscure books and authors are quoted and offered as disproof along with a whole load of meaningless and useless academic mumbo jumbo.
I get the impression that they are just trying to tell the world just how knowledgeable and smart they think they are.
That said, Laithwaite never managed to produce inertial propulsion himself. He was however, responsible for inspiring many, and partly responsible for the success of some.
The experiment you describe is where many, including myself, started in the search for inertial propulsion, asking the same questions.
The academics normally describe this type of demonstration as a “party trick”, but cannot themselves, explain in depth what is happening.
All I can say is, believe it or not, the choice is yours.
