Microgravity action of "floating" small gyroscopes- can it be harnessed? |
Question: |
I'm currently working on a project for Uni, and i'm interested in the action of a small scale heavy disc gyroscope floating in space. I'm not sure whether this question belongs under this heading or one of the others, or indeed in all (or any), but i need someone to advise me if resistance to linear motion can be utilised to support (balance) and give attitude control in a handheld fashion? Would this require magnetic field stabilisation or can the gyro be built so as a given orientation when spinning will naturally resist a linear pull?
Any and all guidance is appreciated.
Thanks, Jonny |
